NEW DELHI: In a day Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam was buried in his hometown Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu, Google paid a special tribute to the President showing Popular black tie on its home page.

The search giant is well known for honoring notables and important occasions and anniversaries marked by redesigning its logo, famously known as the Google Doodle. In the past, it has paid a similar tribute to filmmaker Satyajit Ray, math genius Shakuntala Devi and actor Raj Kapoor.
Google Doodle for Dr. Kalam is only the ribbon under the search field. When the cursor is placed over the tape, which reads: “In memory of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.” Dr. Kalam was buried with state honors on public land in the city where he was born Rameswaram.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with many key ministers, trade ministers and other political leaders like Rahul Gandhi Congress vice president, attended the last rites. The President of India, Pranab Mukherjee and a number of world leaders, including US President Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin, joined in paying respects the former president through his messages. Known as the Missile Man of India, Dr. Kalam played a pivotal role in the Pokhran-II nuclear tests in 1998. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan and the highest India civilian honor, the Bharat Ratna. ndtv
