Regular wicket-keeper Luke Ronchi is injured and he will be replaced by uncapped ODI player Tom Blundell. Ross Taylor will make his comeback in place of Jeetan Patel while the selectors have decided to rest allrounder Corey Anderson for the series.

The Australian selectors have decided to give top-order batsmen David Warner and Usman Khawaja a break in view of preparation for the forthcoming test series in India. Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh have been named as the respective replacements and the two are likely to open the batting together. Skipper Steven Smith has injured his ankle and has been ruled out of the NZ tour. The team has yet to decide on who will be leading the side in this first one-dayer.
